WEEK 7 - Challenges to Sustainable Development

Assalamualaikum and Hi!

During this week of lecture,  we learned about the challenges to sustainable development. It is divided into three aspects which are social, economic and environmental aspect. However, these three aspects are related by one another. 

For instance, our lecturer said that when the income gap between the rich and the poor are getting bigger, it effects the economic aspect of sustainable development. By that, there will be a different status between the rich and the poor and leads to the social impact of sustainable development. Moreover, when the rich think they can do whatever they want, they might pollute the environment with their actions and also the poor might do not care about the environment since they are more concerned about their survival. 

This topic is important because we need to consider all three aspects which are social, economic and environmental in the effort to achieve sustainable development goals also in order to balance everything.

Thus, Islam encourages us to have a balanced (mizan) life to get the best rewards from Allah.
